Affordable Housing
In Need of Affordable Housing in Norfolk, VA

Norfolk needs affordable housing. Housing is the biggest expense for most Norfolk citizens. Housing prices have increased over 150% in the past 10 years. It’s not just a financial issue; it’s a crisis impacting individuals, families, and entire communities. Many hardworking individuals and families find themselves struggling to find safe and decent housing they can afford. This forces them into impossible choices – pay rent and go without essentials like food or healthcare, or risk eviction and homelessness.
Here in Norfolk. this instability must be addressed–it disrupts lives, impacts health, and hinders opportunities. Children in unstable housing often face challenges in school, and adults struggle to maintain employment. Our community loses valuable members who contribute to the local economy and social fabric.
As Norfolk’s Mayor, I will form a committee comprised of government and private citizens to identify practical and obtainable solutions for affordable housing as part of the city’s economic and infrastructure strategy . We must create a stable foundation for individuals and families, allowing them to contribute more fully to the community. It attracts a diverse workforce, benefits local businesses, and ultimately strengthens the entire city. By prioritizing affordable housing, we can build a stronger, more vibrant, and equitable future for all.
